Honestly, I never imagined I could be where I am today – feeling fit, fearless, and finally wearing clothes that bring me joy. My journey with Slimming World hasn’t just changed my body, it’s transformed my whole life.
It all began eight years ago, when I was pregnant with my eldest daughter. The weight crept on, and after she was born it just wouldn’t budge, no matter what I tried. When I had my next daughter, I slipped into a cycle of quick fixes and unhealthy habits in an attempt to lose weight. I tried a fasting diet, but I was constantly hungry and miserable, and I couldn’t stick to it for more than a couple of weeks.
Everything changed the moment I saw a holiday photo… and realised I could barely recognise myself in it.
I’d visited my sister and her husband in India in March 2024. Even though we explored some wonderful places while I was there, the whole experience was very uncomfortable. I’d felt really squashed in the plane seat travelling there and back (and could only just fasten the seatbelt), and that shocking photo of me just topped it off. I knew I had to make some changes when I got home.
My sister-in-law’s mum was going to a Slimming World group and gently encouraged me to join her. I was really hesitant, though, and even when I finally went along one Monday night, I sat in my car outside for ages, trying to talk myself out of going in. I was so close to driving off, but something in me said: ‘Just do it.’ So I walked through those doors… and I’m so glad I did.
The welcome was so warm and genuine – I instantly felt like I belonged.
I was surrounded by people who were all on the same path and ‘got it’. My group night quickly became an invaluable part of my week. The support is incredible. I love hearing everyone’s stories, and swapping tips. And my Consultant, Zoe, is amazing – I couldn’t have done this without her.
Food Optimising has completely changed the way I think about food. I used to rely on ready-cooked dinners and meal deals. Nowadays I’ll base my meals around lots of Free and Speed Free Foods to fill me up.
What’s been my biggest lifesaver…
Slimming World Kitchen has really helped me get to my target. As a busy working mum, meal planning used to be overwhelming. But now we have fresh food delivered every Monday, and we enjoy different home-cooked meals each day without the hassle of hunting down ingredients. It’s made everything easier and kept mealtimes exciting. And the portions are so generous!
Some of my recent favourites have been:
Steak, Marmite-glazed roots & creamed cabbage
Naked pork katsu curry
Easy-breezy smoky chicken traybake
Vietnamese-style turkey & rice bowl
I think the slow-cooker meals on the Slimming World Kitchen menu are going to be a big hit in our house this winter. It’ll be great to know they’ll be ready for when we get home from work!
The new, active me
Since I’ve lost weight, daily life has felt lighter in every way. I don’t get tired as quickly as I used to, and I can run around with my girls, bounce on the trampoline, and even climb into the top bunk for morning cuddles. They love that their mummy can play football now!
One of my favourite things is wake surfing on Lake Windermere. And now I’m slimmer, I’ve improved so much – I feel strong, capable and confident out on the water. Buying a new wetsuit and impact vest this summer felt like such a win. My husband even got me a paddle board, and I’ve loved using it.
I used to suffer with migraines all the time. Nowadays they’re rare. I started my slimming journey as a size 16/18, and now I’m a size 8. I’ve had to buy a whole new wardrobe and, for the first time, I’m choosing colour! No more hiding behind baggy dark clothes.
Joining Slimming World was the best decision I’ve ever made. With the confidence I’ve gained, I only wish I’d done it sooner. It’s changed my life, and I couldn’t be happier. If you’re thinking about joining a group, please walk through those doors!
