A smile really can brighten your day – and together our SMILES are brightening, changing – and even saving people’s lives all over the UK and Republic of Ireland.
We first realised the enormous potential of Slimming World’s fundraising efforts in 1996 after Consultants and employees raised over half a million pounds for Marie Curie Cancer Care. A year on, in 1997, we registered our very own charity – SMILES.
SMILES stands for SLIMMERS MAKING IT a LITTLE EASIER for SOMEONE, and each year our SMILES committee chooses a special charity to benefit from our Consultants' and members' amazing generosity.
So far, SMILES has raised £2.5 million for worthwhile causes including:
- Breakthrough Breast Cancer
- Barnardo’s
- Sargent Cancer Care for Children
- Children in Need
- NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children)
- ISPCC (Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children)
Throughout 2012 all our fundraising efforts will continue to raise money for the NSPCC in the UK and the ISPCC in the Republic of Ireland. Every single penny we raise will help these charities make a real difference to children's lives and answer many more calls for help through their Childline services.
Slimming World & the NSPCC
Slimming World has a long standing relationship with the NSPCC and since first adopting them as our charity partner in 2003, our members, Consultants and staff have raised over £1.4 million, enabling the charity to take incredible steps every day to protect thousands of children from harm. To acknowledge our generous contribution, Slimming World was made a FULL STOP Partner in 2010 - an honour only bestowed on those who have supported the NSPCC at the very highest level.
